Study Subject(s):Integrated Aero-servoelastic Design Optimization of Wind Turbine Rotors
Course Level:PhD
Scholarship Provider: DTU
Scholarship can be taken at: Denmark
Eligibility:
Candidates should have a master’s degree in engineering or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to the master’s degree. Experience with wind energy and rotor design, as well as good communication skills are considered advantageous for obtaining the position.
Scholarship Open for International Students: No
Scholarship Description: The development of new aero-servo-elastic tools for computing the nonlinear steady state of a wind turbine rotor and its stability and frequency-domain characteristics including the controller (e.g. HAWCStab2 by Risø-DTU) have opened new possibilities of combining the design of wind turbine rotors in an integrated process that includes all design parameters of aerodynamics, structural dynamics, and control. The “Light Rotor” project with participation of Risø-DTU and Vestas and a similar project between DTU-MEK and LM Wind Power consider this integrated design problem mainly from an aeroelastic point of view by designing new high lift airfoils for more slender blade designs, but without feedback from the control design.
