Eligibility: -Candidates must have completed (or be due to complete by December 2011) either at least four years of undergraduate study (normally a Bachelor’s degree with First or Upper Second Class Honours, or a combined degree with First or Upper Second Class results) or an equivalent combination of undergraduate and postgraduate study at a degree awarding body in Australia or overseas.
- You must be an Australian citizen and have been resident in Australia for at least five of the last ten years. Candidates with dual citizenship may not apply in more than one of the countries in which they are citizens.
- You must be at least 18 years and younger than 25 years by 1 October 2011. This means applicants must have been born after 30 September 1986 and on or before 1 October, 1992.
- The Rhodes Trust and Oxford University require that selection for a Scholarship and for admission to the University will be without regard to marital status, race, ethnic origin, colour, sex and gender, religion, sexual orientation, social background, disability, caste or other irrelevant distinction.
Scholarship Open for International Students: Yes ( Australia)
Scholarship Description: The Rhodes Trust offers 9 Rhodes Scholarships in Australia each year, one for each state and three for Australia at large. A Rhodes Scholarship is tenable at the University of Oxford. All fees are paid by the Trust direct to the college. In addition, a Rhodes Scholar receives a personal stipend and assistance with travelling expenses to the United Kingdom. Each year, there are nine Scholarships available in Australia to enable outstanding students – chosen on the basis of exceptional intellect, character, leadership, and commitment to service – to study at the University of Oxford.Of the nine scholarships available each year in Australia, each state offers one Scholarship that is awarded by a selection committee of seven members (including three Rhodes Scholars) based in the state. In addition, there are three Australia-at-Large Scholarships awarded by a selection committee based in Canberra. This selection committee will consider applicants from the ACT and other territories of the Commonwealth, as well as those candidates nominated by state selection committees.
